Nanaimo, British Columbia
Canada
< back to Property List

Sandstone Towne Centre will be the commercial core of the Sandstone community—a master planned, fully integrated community in South Nanaimo. The development is currently in the planning stages; in December 2007 it was adopted into Nanaimo’s Official Community Plan, and the city’s Urban Containment Boundary was amended to include the property.

Sandstone's Master Plan was presented to Plan Nanaimo Advisory Committee (PNAC) on September 23, 2009 where it received unanimous approval from committee members, who recommended it proceed to Nanaimo City Council for 1st and 2nd reading in early October.

Sandstone is co-owned by Northwest Properties and the Snuneymuxw First Nation, and consists of approximately 726 acres of vacant freehold land that straddles the Island Highway and Duke Point Highway.

The overall project contemplates the development of the land into a complete and integrated master-planned community consisting of residential, retail, recreational, commercial, educational and industrial uses. The development is expected to be phased over a 10 to 15 year period relative to market demand.

Nanaimo and the mid-Vancouver Island corridor continue to be a key destination for residential and retail development. With Sandstone, Northwest Properties is positioned to meet the demand with a unique and sustainable community for people to live, work, shop and play.
